Dutton can say and do whatever he chooses - SMH

SMH gaslighting over Dutton@2x
The Sydney Morning Herald Headlines with "Dutton can say and do whatever he chooses, knowing he’ll always be given cover"... Now that's #gaslighting if ever there was a fart in search of a flame.

While Carney correctly identifies Dutton as a pivoting (deceiving) populist with a dud nuclear policy and a laughable ‘for the people’ shtick (get real, he's an extreme right Liberal—"PAY FOR YOUR HEALTHCARE, peasants”), he fails to address the elephant in the newsroom: it’s outlets like The Sydney Morning Herald that are greasing the wheels of Dutton’s get-out-of-jail-free card.

Let’s break it down: Carney spends a whole piece pointing out Dutton’s media-enabled rise but stops just short of saying, “By the way, we’re part of the problem!” How convenient. Dutton gets to make un-costed promises, shift nuclear policy faster than a weather vane in a cyclone, and serve up slogans instead of solutions—all while the #MSM runs interference like a half-arsed PR team.

The same commercial media Carney critiques has been rolling out the red carpet for Dutton’s nonsense. Albanese sneezes? Front page. Dutton announces a billion-dollar nuclear fantasy with no modelling? Crickets, or better yet, headlines like “Dutton’s Vision for the Future.” And let’s not forget, it’s these very media outlets that amplify every rhetorical jab Dutton throws at Labor while conveniently forgetting to mention his own party’s decade-long record of neglect and chaos.

But the gaslighting? That’s the cherry on top. Carney crafts a narrative where the public is expected to believe Dutton's free ride is some mystical external phenomenon, not the direct result of The Sydney Morning Herald and its media mates burying his blunders and pumping up his populist appeal. It’s like a firefighter setting your house on fire and then showing up with a bucket of water to “help."

And that “trend is your friend” line? Save it. Polls climb not because Dutton is a master strategist but because the media has given him a megaphone and handed Albanese a muzzle. If SMH wants to play the impartial observer while actively feeding the beast, at least have the decency to own it.

Bottom line: the next time SMH runs a piece about Dutton’s ‘momentum,’ they might as well sign it off with “Love, your friendly neighbourhood media enablers.” Spare us the faux critique, Carney—your outlet isn’t just reporting the news; you’re shaping the narrative. #MSM #DuttonsMediaPass
