Elon drew a great big X over Twitter

Elon Musk draws a big X on Twitter, then shits on it
So, X decides to pop up a lovely surprise in the middle of a post: (1) “Your account has been locked. We found some unusual activity on your account.”

So, X decides to pop up a lovely surprise in the middle of a post: (1) “Your account has been locked. We found some unusual activity on your account.

Alright, fair enough, verification required. We complete the process—no problem. But let’s be clear: the so-called “unusual activity” wasn’t on our end. We were just posting and reading as usual. Naturally, X doesn’t bother explaining what was unusual—because that would require a level of transparency they clearly lack. Can’t make it too easy for us to figure out what’s really going on, now can they?

We move on. Post this, read that. Thirty minutes later, a new gem: (2) “We've added a temporary label to your account which may impact its reach. Learn more here.”

Sure, X. Great. But let’s be honest—our “reach” has already tanked by over 80% (3) since the USA election, as we’ve documented multiple times. So, what does “impacting our reach” even mean when you’ve already reduced it to next to nothing? Whatever it is, thanks for the heads-up… kind of.

Curious, we click the link to “learn more,” only to be greeted with vague waffle that tells us absolutely nothing. Apparently, we “did something.” What exactly? No clue (4) —because the secret squirrels running this joint refuse to say. Welcome to dystopia: “You’re probably guilty of something, so off to jail you go!” No charges, no explanation, no chance to defend yourself. Classic Musk-era X.

What’s weird is that, apart from our profile now showing us following ZERO people but our followers remain intact, nothing else seems to have changed. People can still find us via search, posts are still visible, and—strangely—our posts are getting the same visibility as they did before the “label.” So, what are the goblins even up to? Your guess is as good as ours.

Here’s what we do know: this kind of arbitrary, high-handed nonsense is only accelerating our departure—just like it has for so many others. To be fair, X didn’t just become a trash fire after the USA election (though that did crank the chaos into overdrive). The rot set in long before that. Remember the good old days? Yeah, neither do we.

We’ve done the research. We’ve posted about the mathematical changes that explain what’s happening here—and that’s probably why we’ve been hit. Combine that with our fact-based criticism of the hard-right nonsense (looking at you, AU) on this platform, and voilà: punishment dished out for daring to speak inconvenient truths.

It’s a shame, really. We had high hopes for this platform once. But honestly, who could seriously consider X a viable platform for their business anymore? It’s just too unpredictable. Why invest time and money here when you never know when or why you’ll be penalised?

Any investment, no matter how small, requires a degree of certainty. X offers none.
